St.George Orthodox Syrian Church, Borivali was established in 1980, when some erstwhile members of Malad Parish staying in Borivali, approached late lamented Dr.Philipose Mar Theophilus, the then Metropolitan of Angamaly and Bombay requesting one service a month to be held at Borivali. H.G consented and vide Kalpana No.15/80 dated 14th March, 1980 a new Church was established at Borivali with Late Rev.Fr.M.T. Easo appointed as the first Vicar of the Parish. The Parish was registered under BPT Act, 1950 and Societies Registration Act XXI of1860, on 21st May, 1980. The first Holy Qurbana of the Parish was celebrated on Sunday 27th April, 1980 in a classroom of St.Francis D’Assissi High School, Borivali. Despite not having their own Church and paucity of funds, the Parish thrived and on 1st January, 1991 the congregation was granted the status of a full-fledged Parish. In the year 1993, the Parishioners bought a Parsonage at Dahisar West. The Parishioners prayers for a Church of their own were answered when in 1997, they successfully acquired a plot of land with a small bungalow near Dahisar Railway station, under the leadership of the then Vicar Rev.Fr.Yaunan Mulamoottil. After carrying out major alterations, the bungalow was converted into a Church and the temporary consecration of the Church was solemnized on 23rd November, 1997 by H.G.Geevarghese Mar Coorilos. The final consecration of the Church was done on 30th April & 1stMay, 1998 by H.G.Thomas Mar Themotios, Metropolitan of Malabar and Catholicate Designate (H.H.Baselios Didymos I, Catholicos of the East) and assisted by H.G.Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, Metropolitan, Bombay Diocese. The Church grew from strength to strength and on 12thApril, 1998 H.H.Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Mathews II, then Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan inaugurated a charitable dispensary in the blessed memory of H. G.Dr.Philipose Mar Theophilus. Subsequently, a building for the clinic was constructed which was blessed by Rev Fr.Varghese Yohannan and inaugurated by the local Corporator, Dr.(Mrs.). Shubha Raul on 29th June, 2003.Theclinic is a boon for the poor citizens of this area and sees a large number of patients every week. The needy get free consultation and medicines from the Dispensary. The Parish also provides educational, medical and financial help to the economically weaker sections of society. In the year 2005, The Parish celebrated it’s Silver Jubilee on a large scale with various programmes.
